The Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs has been asking to include the National Guard and Reservists in qualifying for VA benefits including VA Pension.  It is unclear if they are asking to do away with National Guard and Reserve member benefits such as the National Guard pension (which is rewarded seperately

National Guard and Reserve members with active service may currently qualify for a variety of VA benefits. Active service includes:

  • Active duty (Title 10)  When serving under Title 10, “active duty” means full-time duty in the active military service of the United States. Title 10 allows the President to “federalize” National Guard forces by ordering them to active duty in their reserve component status or by calling them into Federal service in their militia status.  Full-time duty, such as, but not limited to, a unit deployment during war, including travel to and from such duty,  OR
  • Full-time National Guard duty (Title 32) Title 32 allows the Governor, with the approval of the President or the Secretary of Defense, to order a member to duty for operational Homeland Defense activities in accordance with the following sections of U.S. Code (USC): 1. 32 USC 502 (f): This statue allows member of the National Guard to be ordered to full-time National Guard duty to perform operational activities.- full-time duty, such as responding to a national emergency or duties as an Active Guard Reserve, where you receive pay from the Federal government.
