What does Veterans Day look like during a pandemic? This year, while many of our Veterans are struggling with an increase of isolation, our Veterans have had to adjust to the absence of parades and celebrations that most look forward to. With parades and school programs shut down due to Covid-19 concerns, how can we still celebrate our Veterans this Veterans Day while safely social distancing?
Celebrating Veterans Day can be as simple as reaching out to a Veteran that you know to ask how they are coping with the current pandemic, or ask them to tell their story of how they have served our nation.
If you have children that are stuck at home they can make a sign to post in the front yard to thank our Veterans that might be driving by. What kid doesn’t love an art project?
Organize a group call with many Veterans that can share stories with each other.
You can also find virtual events that can teach your kids why we have Veterans Day. On November 11th some military cemeteries will be streaming their wreath laying ceremony. This is a ceremony that our principle, James Swain, has been honored to be a part of for years.
Restaurants are still offering discounts to our Veterans but you will have to contact your local eatery to ask if discounts can be applied to orders for pick-up. Other discounts range from hair cuts to a Free True Rest Float Spa float session (this sounds amazing) for active duty military and Veterans.
